 It all
started with a casual conversation with our son-in-law
Russell,
a professed wine connoisseur, from the colder
climate up North in January 2005. Thinking about the
cases of wine he would be shipping for his “snowbird”
retreat, he asked if the new house had
a wine cellar……He
was planning to ship two cases, one of the famous “big
reds” Tignello and French Favorite, Chassagne-Montrachet.
Wow, the pressure was building, not only did I not have
a wine cellar;
I chuckled
and assured him he would have a wine storage fit for the
Queens and Kings he was shipping. Off to work I go. One
evening driving home from my job, I thought it would be
a good idea to start working on a custom wine cabinet
for him. I stopped off at the supply store, stocked up
on supplies and headed home. From that point on, each
evening I devoted my time to making the wood cabinet. A
few months had gone by and my “masterpiece” was
finished. In the process of constructing the cabinet it
occurred to me that it only held twenty-three bottles.
The thought came to me that he was shipping two cases,
twenty-four bottles; well what was I going to do with
the twenty-fourth bottle. As I pondered around in the
garage, I thought, "What if I made a wine bottle
holder?". I tinkered around with an idea I had on the
art of balance marrying performance and developed a
unique and unusual piece of art.
